The event, which opens on 24 February, will be followed by the launch of WA’s Grain Industry Strategy 2025+, an industry-supported strategy aimed at doubling the value of the Western Australian grains industry by 2025.

“This event provides anyone in the grain value chain the opportunity to reflect on production, management and marketing practices in light of the latest applied research and global trends,” Minister Baston said.

“There will be a strong global focus among our keynote speakers looking at international grain market competition and yield improvements, wheat biotechnology research, and Chinese demand for malting barley, as well as the latest information from local experts on new crop varieties and research.”

The 2015 Agribusiness Crop Updates will be held at Crown Perth and will be jointly hosted by the Department of Agriculture and Food and the Grains Research and Development Corporation.

The event will feature distinguished keynote speakers from around the world, including Dmitry Rylko of Russia’s Institute for Agricultural Market Studies, who will discuss future prospects for grain exports from Russia and countries bounded by the Black Sea and the potential impact on Australia, as well as Canadian oilseed physiologist, Dr Malcolm Morrison, who will provide insights on the innovations underpinning yield improvements in the Canadian canola industry; and Gerónimo Watson, of Bioceres Argentina, who will present on biotechnology and research into GM wheat in Argentina.
