Minister for Energy and Resources Russell Northe said six additional open days would be held in Cullulleraine, Murrayville, Traralgon, Wangaratta, Numurkah and Heywood in the coming weeks, providing people with the opportunity to share their views with independent facilitators about the development of an onshore natural gas industry in Victoria, as well as accessing factual information from technical specialists, including geologists and hydrogeologists.

“The Napthine Government is committed to listening to the community on this important issue,” Mr Northe said.

“Unlike Labor which allocated 73 licences for coal seam, shale and tight gas exploration and approved 23 fracking operations without any community consultation, we are engaging with the community and want to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues before making decisions on this important matter.”

According to the media release by the Premier of Victoria, the independent facilitators are consulting with people living in districts that are more likely to contain unconventional gas, but anyone from other districts is also welcome to attend.
