Ken Baston, Agriculture and Food Minister revealed that $3.4 million are committed to natural resource management, according to a ministerial media statement issued by the Government of Western Australia.

“Community groups work hard to conserve and restore our unique environment – from our coastal and marine sanctuaries, to our agricultural, pastoral and urban lands, rivers, estuaries, natural bush and wildlife sanctuaries,” said Mr. Baston.

“One of the projects, for example, is to build 17km of electric fencing and upgrade another 12km of fencing around 58,000ha of the Nicholson Range, to protect the environment from goats and unmanaged stock.”

Mr. Baston further revealed that the groups involved in these projects are vital for the protection and enhancement of the State’s natural resources and biodiversity, and that the funding will be invaluable to the progress of their work.

Environment Minister Albert Jacob said that the support from the State Government enabled the best possible management of West Australia’s natural resources.

“It is important to maintain this positive relationship with community groups,” said Mr. Jacob.

Over $67million has been committed to supporting community participation in the State NRM Program since it was launched in 2009.

The funding has helped over 220 community groups and organizations, as well as industry groups, local governments, schools and State Government agencies achieve impressive results in their local environments.

The WA’s NRM Ministerial Council includes the Minister for Agriculture and Food, Ken Baston; the Minister for Environment, Albert Jacob; the Minister for Water and Forestry, Terry Redman and the Minister for Fisheries, Troy Buswell.
